Teacher's Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
Will be a teacher of young children and meet the requirements of the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing, and of the licensing agency. Must be willing to fulfill the responsibilities in accordance with the center’s educational philosophy.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Organize and implement a positive and comfortable daily routine by establishing realistic limits for children, by providing for active and quite activities, and by planning orderly transition from one activity to another.
2. Help each child to develop a sense of awareness of esteem to express his/her feelings and accept those feeling; and develop pride as an individual and member of a cultural/ethic group.
3. Plan and implement activities to promote the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children, by providing developmentally appropriate and challenging activities, including self-help skills, and problem-solving and creative awareness.
4. Provide care-giving routines when necessary: diapering, feeding, and toilet training.
5. Implementing safety rules and emergency drill procedures.
6. Inspect indoor and outdoor space daily for hazardous conditions, to ensure safety for children.
7. Organize and maintain safe, nurturing and meaningful environment, which includes materials that reflect the child’s culture.
8. Ensure that the classroom and center facility is clean and free of garbage and debris. Conduct daily checks of children; administer fist aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed children.
9. Write daily progress reports on children.
10. Write an incident reports if major issues arise, or dangers exist in the environment. Recognize and report accidents, illness, and suspected child abuse to appropriate persons.
11. Maintain regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
12. Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s, licensing, HIPPA, and other regulatory agencies.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
1. Provides supervision, protection, and care of residents individually and in groups at all time.
2. Provides assistance to each resident in working with a group and in handling individual problems.
3. Administers discipline and setting of limits for behavior.
4. Documents residents progress; identifies possible need for professional services; communicates such findings to professional staff.
5. Participates in mandatory trainings, in-service, and meetings.
6. Participate in child development centers meeting for staff, and attend all required training’s

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have a minimum of 12 units in Child Development Education; AA degree preferred.
2. Effective communication.
3. Able to work with a diverse population.
4. The person selected for this position must be at least nineteen years of age, be a teacher of young children, and meet the requirements of the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing, and of the licensing agency. This person must have warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to he feelings and needs of others, able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center’s educational philosophy.
