Special Education Teacher
JOB SUMMARY:
Provides academic instruction to teen mothers attending New Village Charter High School (NVCHS). Provides program support and parent education to NVCHS students who are enrolled in the St. Anne’s Family Literacy Program. Supports Program goals by assisting participants with completing the four components of Family Literacy: parent education, parent and child interactive literacy activities, adult education and early childhood education.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Provides instruction and/or services to students who exceptional needs can be accommodated within the regular education program for the majority of the school day.
2. Attend placement/IEP meetings for students. Monitor student’s progress, coordinate the review and revision of their Individualized Education Programs, and refer students to the IEP team if appropriate.
3. Develop a client-centered service plan with each family that describes objectives, interventions, methods and supportive services necessary to achieve the objectives, and outlines timeframes for participation.
4. Implement designated parenting education curriculum to foster the acquisition of parenting skills for students 5. Work with parents to determine parental needs and interests for future parent education sessions 6. Design and facilitate parent and child interactive literacy activities (PCILA) with early childhood education staff 7. Facilitate classes, such as parenting education and parent and child interaction activities.
8. Providing aftercare support for participants who have completed the program.
9. Provide conflict resolution/mediation.
10. Communicate through fax and telephone contact with other service providers when appropriate.
11. Attends mandatory Even Start and Family Literacy Support Network (FLSN) meetings.
12. Collaborates with outside agencies to facilitate and integrate Family Literacy components.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Maintain regular, consistent and timely attendance.
2. Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s, Licensing, HIPPA, and other regulatory agencies.
3. Participate in mandatory trainings, in-services, and meetings.
4. Ensure safety of residents while transporting to and from appointments, as needed.
5. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a valid California Special Education Teaching Credential (RSP or mild/moderate SED) 2. Experience in both regular and special education classes. Experience working with mild/moderate SED students and secondary-education teaching experience, preferred.
3. Good oral and written communication skills.
4. Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
5. Physical ability to perform ProAct, administer first aid/CPR and operate an Agency motor vehicle.
6. Ability to independently use a computer and the ability to learn necessary computer programs.
