Bogen Family Transitional Housing Program

Research shows that foster youth, especially those with young children, are in dire need of housing and supportive services in the years immediately following their emancipation from care. According to the Department of Children and Family Services, of the approximately 1,800 youth that annually emancipate from the foster care system, 45% tragically become part of the homeless population of Los Angeles. Additionally, a recent study estimates that in the community in which St. Anne's resides, there is an unmet need for additional transitional housing units for 400 families.

To address the critical need for transitional housing and support services for emancipating youth, St. Anne's Bogen Family Center opened in July 2005, and has since been operating at full-capacity with a substantial waiting list. The Transitional Housing Program provides up to 24 months of safe, subsidized housing and support services for 39 emancipating young women and their children, either leaving our Residential Treatment Program, referred directly from Los Angeles County's foster care or probation systems, or from a variety of social service organizations throughout Los Angeles County.

Services available to all residents include job training, quality child care, educational and vocational resources, employment placement, medical and mental health services, family literacy assistance, life skills training and fiscal responsibility counseling. Our program focuses on providing these young women with the tools and resources necessary to help them build futures as independent, contributing adults who can raise their children in a healthy environment.
